Hello, World!
I’m getting a new project off the ground: my Six Things blog. I hope you will subscribe, enjoy, and tell your friends.
Why am I doing this?
I love to tell a story. I started storytelling as far back as I can remember. For Christmas, 1972, my mom gave me a hardcover version of Strunk & White’s Elements of Style. Inside it, written in her elegant hand, is this inscription, “I hope you will use this book to write great stories that one day everyone will see.” She got me, even if I didn’t get myself.
I want to do something different. I have been doing mostly technical writing throughout my professional years. I love facts and I appreciate the craft of technical writing. It’s helped me pay many a bill. I suppose this is an outlet. I want to tell more stories about the people I meet. I will not abandon technical writing, but now that I am a freelancer, I can emphasize the “free” of my situation.
I could certainly keep a personal journal rather than keeping a public blog, but what fun is that? I want to share the ideas and thoughts of the interesting people I know.
Here is my vision for Six Things:
- I will feature six things that someone in a situation or in a profession or an industry would like you to know.
- Why six things? Because it’s more than five, and everyone does 10.
- My aim is to publish once each week.
- If you have an idea for a situation or profession that deserves Six Things focus. Please reach out to me!
